Uh-oh. I already hear the cavalry coming for you. Better wave a cross or a copy of the Constitution to ward off the evil spirits. Best of luck.

Countless hours of work? When will you quit patting yourself on the back? I have to sift through several layers of self-congratulatory comments about your 'research', experience, and educational background before I even start to get to your underlying argument. You don't need to dumb down for anyone. You are already there. Your writing skills are subpar and you have a particular method of circular logic that you never fail to demonstrate. You don't impress me. You boastfully claim to be qualified enough to be a professor at Harvard or Yale, yet I can't even see you being an adjunct faculty member at a community college. How you can even begin to author a law review article with such woeful grammar, spelling errors and poor cognitive writing skills is beyond me.

Even if you have the claimed credentials, it doesn't mean you are right. I have the same level of education that you do, but I feel no need to constantly recite my resume and credentials to give myself added importance. It's pretentious to constantly belabor the point that you have a law degree and for some reason relating to that, you know what you are talking about and everyone else who expresses a contrary viewpoint is wrong. Ask any lawyer and political scientist? I do all the time for various reasons. And I get several different answers. You really need to get over yourself and your self-absorption over your qualifications. There are thousands of attorneys in this country. You are but one of many. I salute you for pursuing higher education, but don't think for a second that I'm going to buy into what you are saying because of what your educational background is. You can leave that part out. Try giving us an argument that is completely disconnected from what you claim are your qualifications, and we can all judge for ourselves whether your words have merit. If you don't like the responses to your statements, then feel free to ignore them. It works both ways.

This is what you would call intellectual intimidation. Offer up several uncomfirmable "facts" such as having advanced degrees, working for the Senate, and being a self-proclaimed expert in several fields, and hopefully people are bullied into submission because of these seemingly substansive credentials. In my experience, having people list what is obviously their own personal opinion backed up only by their resume usually means that they're not reliable sources for information. Robert - ignore it. Refuse to be bullied by someone conveniently hiding behind the cloak of online anonymity.

I feel tempted to walk into a KH, order a lot of literature, and then place "two coins of little value" into the donation box. What a disgrace. It's almost like they are implicitly acknowledging that most Witnesses have little means, and that they shouldn't assume that whatever few rich members will pick up the slack. This is probably the only 'non-profit' organization on the planet that would set up shop in a place like Darfur and have the nerve to place a donation box in plain view.

I too believe that just yanking the tax exempt status on all churches would probably cause more harm than good. It would restrict, if not force the termination of many activities and programs that are good for the community in whole. It's organizations like the WTS that are abusing this trust. Absolutely nothing gets funnelled back into the Witness community. Kingdom Halls are like mausoleums. Would it hurt to have a luncheon at the KH every now and then to improve morale? What I'd like to see is a kind of capital gains tax levied on the religions like the WTS who hoard their assets and give almost nothing back. Provide convenient loopholes to encourge these organizations to funnel this excess money into charitable foundations which help the Witness community at large and take care of the elderly who gave their whole lives and now have little to sustain them. The buildings in Brooklyn are another example. What are the primary purposes of such buildings? Houses of worship like KHs and Assembly Halls should be exempt, but not for buildings that are being used to produce literature for which a donation is highly suggested and even strongly implied. It's unlikely to happen though. The Society will set their legal team on it and would be at the Supreme Court in no time arguing religious freedom. For countries that don't buy it, they are just going to pull out of and consolidate elsewhere.

You left out the heavenly spirits of Russell, Rutherford, Knorr, and Franz. They have to be kicking ass somewhere up on that chart. Rutherford has to be Jehovah's wine steward, Russell his pyramid specialist, Knorr his Sodom/Gomorrah liaison, and Franz his official interpretor.

The Society is to be commended...
by cedars inwell, we spend enough time on this forum criticizing the society don't we?
i think we should even this out by commending them whenever they get something right.. for example, the cover of the 2012 yearbook is a vast improvement on the year before!.
graphics guy: so ed, what pictures do you want on our 2011 yearbook cover?

"Umm, will I be able to keep my boobs after Armageddon?"
Good question. Will Jehovah allow women with implants to keep them in the new system? Will someone write the Society about that and post the reply here?

This is too nice of a building for the Witnesses. WT's profit, still Brooklyn's gain. I bet they can't wait until the last JW packs up and heads north. They simply do not belong there any more, if they ever did. I can't see why they didn't stay in Pittsburgh back in the early 20th century. It's like polygamist Mormons putting up a compound in Greenwich Village.
